Club remembers Downhills loss

via Tottenham - Official site

The Club laid a wreath at a special commemoration at Lordship Recreation Ground on Sunday to mark a Second World War tragedy when Downhills air raid shelter suffered a direct hit during the Blitz.

At least 42 people are known to have died in the tragedy, Tottenham's largest single loss of civilian life during the conflict. All lived in the surrounding streets adjacent to the site and many were taken to the East Stand, at White Hart Lane, so that their families could identify them.
